Pussy Riot is a Russian political activist and feminist punk band, whose members became well-known for their guerilla performances staged against autocracy. Three members of the group were arrested during one of their actions staged in a Moscow cathedral; from among the three two members spent twenty-one months in jail. They wear brightly coloured ski masks and clothes.
Guerrilla Girls, a feminist activist art group was established in New York in 1985. They fight against gender inequality and racial discrimination within the art scene. They appear in gorilla masks using the name of deceased female artists in order to remain anonymous.
Gulabi Gang means Pink Group. It is a movement of nearly 20 000 activists in India, wearing pink saris. Their major objectives include the reduction of child marriages and domestic violence, the legal representation of the poor and the elimination of illiteracy.
All three groups fight for social objectives, for gender equality among others. Their togetherness are shown by strong visual and iconic features. These images and attributes appear in my photographs - I wear their masks and dress in their saris, and I pay tribute to their activity with the gesture of desire to be one of them.
